Many families across the Midlands have reported that they are in a water emergency beyond how it tastes and smells. Community members have reported to us that they have had issues with their water for years. A vast majority of those households live right here in the City of Columbia, unincorporated Richland County, and other mostly rural communities across the state. Many of such communities happen to be heavily populated with people that have lower incomes across every diaspora.

We are offering 100 qualifying LMI households with at least 1 or 2 clean water systems (depending on family size) and a 1-year supply of filters. A goal of just $8,500 + In kind donations.

Industrial toxic waste poses significant health risks to all humans but especially those in marginalized communities that live closest to industrial contamination. Our own water despite meeting federal compliance standards has very high levels of toxic cancer-causing chemicals. This is a serious matter and one that requires our state and federal government to complete an updated review of its own standards.
